The original structure of the windmill dates back to the fourteenth century and it was located in a complex of buildings that carry equal historic significance. This made it imperative for the architect to reinvent the interiors of the windmill while keeping many of the original elements of the older construction intact.

But the one aspect of this house that truly sets it apart from the rest is the array of green features that have been incorporated by the architects. Passive solar heating and cooling design naturally keeps the temperature inside moderate even during change of seasons. A high-efficiency boiler with a rooftop solar-thermal preheat a heat recovery system a rainwater harvesting system and energy-efficient lighting fixtures combine to save up on energy consumption.

But with changing times and altering design trends it was time to give its spacious interior a whole new sheen. This task fell to Maxime Jacquet who gave the lavish space and entirely new dynamic with warm neutral tones a multitude of textures and striking artwork that makes a daring visual statement.

Located in the municipality this is one vacation home that focuses more on the outdoors than the indoors. Spread across three different levels the expansive home features breezy interiors that offer unabated views of the lush green mountains and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.

The trend in contemporary interior design is to keep the backdrop of the room as neutral as possible in order to achieve the most striking visual impact. This creates a perfect opportunity for the accent colors to shine through. As a rule the more neutral the room the greater the prominence of the accent hues.

While it resembles one of those lavish retreats from the outside the Naked House is all about stripping away unnecessary frills and ‘over the top’ opulence. After spending years around some of the most luxurious homes and five-star getaways in the region Gerritsen wanted to move away from this modern trend.
